XF Kronos, also just Kronos, is an asteroid in the Solar System.

History

Discovered prior to 2003, Kronos is expected to contain minerals and resources deemed vital for sustaining the Happy Valley colony on Mars. On March 17, 2003, a joint mission between the Mars-7 Alliance and Helios Aerospace was undertaken, attempting to tow the asteroid towards Mars' orbit for later mining. The mission failed when the docking construction between the rock and the capture ship Ranger 1 broke apart due to heavy wobbling of the asteroid, after some of the anchors not being strong enough. As a result, two people died in space, Soviet cosmonaut Grigory Kuznetsov, and Helios space worker Tom Parker.
