Vasily Galkin is a Soviet worker for Helios Aerospace at Happy Valley.
History[]
In the aftermath of the 2003 Soviet coup d'état, Vasily is opinionated about the change in leadership, arguing with cosmonaut Svetlana Zakharova while working together outside on the Martian surface. After he calls her a traitor, she attacks him, leading to a scuffle that ends with Galkin's suit puncturing and losing pressure. After being rescued to the base, he is left in a comatose state in a hyperbaric chamber under supervision of Dr. Dimitri Mayakovsky. His injury and the cause of it causes anger among the other Helios workers who believe that Zakharova is not facing harsh enough punishment for almost killing him.
Back on Earth, his political connections as the nephew of a Politburo member result in the Soviet Union wishing to bring Zakharova to trial for her actions, recalling her from Mars. This causes new tensions between the two main M-7 partners, as NASA and Happy Valley commander Danielle Poole were not willing to send Zakharova back, expecting her not to get a fair trial. Until a compromise was made between the United States and the Soviet Union to send her to India, the only neutral M-7 member, to face trial. [1]
