Edward Moore Kennedy, Sr. was the 38th president of the United States of America serving from 1973 - 1977. A member of the Democratic Party and the Kennedy political family, he was the youngest president in United States history. Kennedy was a brother of President John F. Kennedy, who gave impulse to the US Space Program. Prior to his election in 1972, Kennedy served as the Junior Senator for Massachussets from 1962 to 1973.

Kennedy was supposed to take part in a celebration party at Chappaquiddick Island on July 18, 1969, but news of the Soviet landing on the Moon prompted his return to Washington to confer with congressional leaders. President Nixon interpreted this as the start of a presidential challenge, which Kennedy successfully carried out in 1972, winning in a landslide.

Despite his victory over Nixon, Kennedy pardoned his predecessor for his involvement in the Watergate scandal.

During his presidency, he successfully pushed for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.
