The T-38 Talon is a supersonic jet trainer aircraft designed and built by the Northrop corporation. It is used by the U.S. Air Force and NASA to train pilots.
History[]
The T-38 was used to train female ASCANs as part of the female astronaut training program in 1969. Candidate Janice landed the jet incorrectly, while Tracy Stevens, with the help of instructor Ed Baldwin, managed to land smoothly.[1]
In 1983, Ed Baldwin and Gordo Stevens engaged in mock combat in T-38s. Ed's jet suffered an engine fire and he was forced to eject over the Gulf of Mexico. Both Gordo and Ed were later reprimanded for their actions.[2]
Molly Cobb flew a T-38 to the edge of space before stalling and descending 15,000 feet, after her doctor had told her that she will become blind.[3]
T-38s flew in a missing man formation during the funeral ceremony for Gordo and Tracy Stevens.[4]

Behind the scenes[]
- T-38 Talons are used by NASA to train astronauts in real life.
- The T-38 has a service ceiling of around 50,000 feet, meaning it would stall long before reaching the edge of space.
