A spacesuit, also space suit, is a special garment designed to support life of human in outer space or on the surface of other astronomical objects, like the Moon or Mars.
General information[]
Spacesuits are necessary for extravehicular activity (EVA) of astronauts, and for any activity on the surface of other celestial objects than Earth. They are also often worn inside (IVA) a spacecraft as a safety precaution in case of loss of cabin pressure, especially during launch and re-entry.
Spacesuits must provide stable internal pressure, breathable oxygen and the elimination of carbon dioxide, and body heat regulation. They must also shield against ultraviolet and particle radiation, and protect against small micrometeoroids. At the same time, they must provide mobility and allow for the astronaut to do their work outside the spacecraft or on the surface of the astronomical body.
Spacesuits usually include a communication system, and some may be adapted to maneuver, dock, and tether onto a spacecraft.

Behind the scenes[]
The suits used for the 1994 NASA Mars mission are based on NASA's Mark III spacesuit design from the 1990's, which was first tested in 1992.
