Space tourism is human space travel for recreational purposes.

History

During the global Space Boom of the mid 80s, the pioneer space tourist company Polaris Space Tours was founded by Sam Cleveland and Karen Baldwin. The two space tourism pioneers unveiled their plans on building an own space station to be used as an orbital hotel in 1990, and by mid 1992 the hotel in Earth's orbit was built and ready for operation.

By the late 1990s space tourism eventually made a comeback, with Hilton opening the first hotel on the Moon for the general public.

Trivia

Hilton opening a hotel on the lunar surface is based off of real concepts from our timeline involving Hilton Hotels planning to open a hotel on the Moon, which were popularized during the 1950s and 1970s.
