A rescue of the crew of the Soviet space mission Mars-94 was performed by the crew of NASA's Sojourner mission during the Race to Mars in fall 1994. The rescue was the result of Mars-94 undergoing an imminent nuclear meltdown after its engines were pushed beyond their limits to attempt to get ahead of Sojourner and Helios's Phoenix in the race.[1]
