Pamela "Pam" Horton was the bartender of the Outpost Tavern in Houston in the 70s and the former girlfriend of Ellen Waverly. She later moved to Austin, where she became a poet, author, and teacher.

After Ellen Wilson's coming-out in 1995,[2] the two came together again. Ellen winning a second term as US President,[3] and later signing a Marriage Inclusion Act,[4] opened the possibility for the pair to make their relationship official. In June 2001, Pam and Ellen got married.[4]

History[]

Season 1[]

Pam was a bartender at the Outpost Tavern in Houston. Pam and Ellen Waverly developed a romantic relationship during that time. Larry Wilson helped them to keep the relationship secret because NASA would disapprove of a lesbian relationship. Eventually, Ellen chooses to marry Larry, to dispel suspicions that she is a lesbian and that Larry is gay. The marriage between Ellen and Larry ends her relationship with Pam.[5]

Season 2[]

By 1983, Pam has moved to Austin, finished her masters degree, and became a poet and a teacher. She published a book of poetry and mailed a book to Ellen at home with a note saying one of the poems is about her. Ellen then attends a reading where Pam is presenting her book.[6] Pam introduced Elise, her partner. Pam and Ellen arranged to get together for drinks in Houston a few weeks later.

When Karen Baldwin was serving them drinks at the Outpost, Pam mentioned to Karen that she now lives in Austin with her girlfriend. Karen was briefly startled, then smoothly recovered saying congrats and that Pam would be welcome at the Outpost anytime. Pam and Ellen re-kindled their romantic relationship, and Ellen prepared to leave NASA so she could be with Pam publicly and authentically. But global events transpired, after which President Reagan promoted Ellen to the administrator of NASA. Larry had a talk with Pam, then Pam left Ellen a heart-breaking note saying she is returning to Elise.[7]

Season 3[]

Ellen Wilson, now President of the United States, visited Pam after Larry revealed to her that Pam ended their relationship to not stay in the way of her career.[8] After Ellen's public coming-out at a press conference in the White House, she visited her once again.[9]

Between season 3 & 4[]

After Ellen's coming-out, the two came eventually together again. In 1996, Ellen surprisingly won a second term. At her inauguration in January 1997, Pam was at her side. During her second term, Ellen signed a Marriage Inclusion Act. In June 2001 Pam and Ellen married in a private ceremony in Houston. The pair moved together to Ellen's a ranch in South Texas.[4]
