The Moon is an astronomical body that orbits Earth and a permanent natural satellite. The Soviet Union and United States of America had a space race to the moon. While the Americans were close with Apollo 10, in a surprise twist the Soviet cosmonaut, Alexei Leonov, was the first man to set foot on the Moon.
About a month after Leonov's mission, Apollo 11 landed America's first astronauts on the moon, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.
