We gotta do something. I'm tired of this shit. It's time we remind them who really runs this base.

Miles Dale is a mechanic on Happy Valley and former oil rig worker. In 2003, he applied at Helios Aerospace for a job on the Moon. He was accepted, although with the earliest run in 2005 only. After making clear that he urgently needs a job right now, he was offered to go to Mars instead, which he accepted.[1]
History[]
Season 4[]
New Beginnings[]
Miles, who is in the process of divorce with Amanda Dale dropped by the latter's house looking for his good shirt due to an upcoming interview with Helios Aerospace. Miles believes that the job could bring his family back to a stable financial situation and save their marriage. He explained the job is on the Moon, with Helios looking with people with off-shore rig experience. Amanda warned him not to get too excited, but Miles assures he would be qualified enough for the position.[1]
When Miles arrived he realized he required a higher education background, and copied the alma mater of another applicant on his application. During his interview, he was told his references checked out. When the interviewer noticed he went to the same college as his brother, he asked about his education and his time there. Miles carried out the lie claiming he was all over the place during his studies. The interviewer then offered him a slot in the Summer of 2005, but plead for something earlier to bring his family together. But after some hesitation, he was offered a slot with the next Mars crew, which has a two year term minimum, opposed to four months on the Moon. After some hesitation, Miles accepted.[1]
After the Kronos Mission tragedy, Amanda begged Miles not to go, worried something could happen to him. She told Miles that those who died from the tragedy had families who would never see their fathers again. Miles assured Amanda he wold be okay and the two embrace. Though Amanda reminded Miles that they still aren't getting back together.[1]
Months later, Miles arrives on Mars. Although he is excited at first, things take a quick turn when he realizes his level has been recieving no communications from back home. Additionally, Miles learns that he's been assigned to mundane tasks and is essentially a glorified repairman. When he receives his first pay, he complains this wasn't what he was promised. However, he was reminded that the asteroid mining program was halted, and his original duties and income relied heavily on the bonuses from the Kronos capturing mission.[2]
After the communications was repaired on Danielle Poole's orders, Miles was able to view his family's recorded messages. As he tried to record a response video, he failed to pull himself to continue that the job wasn't what was promised. Samantha Massey took pity on him and brought him to Ilya's underground bar.[2]
Black Market business[]
When Miles continued to struggle to support his family, he looked to work for Ilya, and was able to earn himself a test run when the latter learned he had a green badge, able to help grow his business. Miles quickly impressed Ilya by carefully selling the goods to the upper decks, and soon learns how to be more proactive. Before long, Miles quickly increased his income.[3]
Miles tried to impress Ilya further by increasing the distilling process of the vodka. However, Miles inadvertenly fried the cooling coil, setting back Ilya's business by months. However, Miles learned there was a compatible coil on Happy Valley, albeit in the North Korean quarters. Miles suggested a plan to retrieve the coil, but the others backed out. Miles later hacked into the system to make it appear there was a methane leak. After some persuation, Miles convinces the North Koreans to evacuate their quarters so he could "fix" the leak. As he retrieved the coil, Lee Jung-Gil believed Miles was planting a bug. Miles came clean and explained the situation. Lee agreed to let Miles keep the coil if he has Ilya help him bring his wife.[3]
Miles learned that an obsidian he sent back to his family was sold to a Galleria for five grand and pitches to Ilya that they start exporting them. However, Ilya suggests that expanding the business that way creates more risk than benefit. Miles suggests on doing the export business on his own accord and asks Samantha for help, though she declined due to the recent incident between Svetlana Zakharova and Vasily Galkin. Miles decided to instead make a solo trip on foot to Peckinpah Mesa, the site of the obsidian rocks.[4]
Using his extra cash he earned from Ilya's business, he gets his hands on an astronaut suit but is disappointed when he was given an older Helios suit. After making his way to Peckinpah Mesa, he is first disappointed at not finding any, but notices an outcropping where he believes one will be, when trying to reach it, the outcropping breaks and he falls into a fissure. After not returning in time. Samantha comes to his rescue with a rover, finding him alive, but with a wound on his arm and his radio broken. She rescues him with the rovers winch, then berates him for going on the risky mission, stating that the only reason he is alive is because of the suit. She stitches the wound on his arm and the two share a moment before Rich Waters interupted them on the radio.[4]
Miles later continued to pester Ilya on smuggling Lee's wife, but was told that it wouldn't be possible afterall, and that they need to stall until it was the right time to let him know.[5]
Miles later received a video message from Amanda, who recently purchased a house thanks to the Obsidian he sent back. Amanda concluded the message hinting of the possibility of reconciling their marriage. After Ilya, who recently discovered Miles' obsidian sales gave Miles his cut, while offering him a drink.[5]
Some time after, Miles arrived at a loading dock, but learned he was cut out of the business. Petros Khorenatsi strangled him, threatening him to not speak to Ilya anymore or to return to the loading docks. In retaliation, Miles told Lee the truth, that Ilya only cared about Lee's and the North Korean's business, but had no intention of bring Lee's wife aboard. Upset, Lee sent two North Koreans to beat up Petros, staging it as an accident. Miles and the two North Koreans later surround Ilya. Grateful that Ilya still took him in initially, offered him to be part of the obsidian business, but Ilya still declined. Miles then told Ilya he would be welcome to his underground bar, but as a patron, effectively taking over his business.[6]
Goldilocks Theft[]
The bar and smuggling business continues to operate smoothly under new leadership, although this is threatened by the Helios strike.[7] New security measures are put into place across the base after the strike. The bar is just one of the casualties. Palmer James and members of the new security detail shut it down, due to it violating the M-7 charter on contraband. Miles is then recruited by Ghost Ops, who are plotting to steal the asteroid Goldilocks. Although he is at first either wary of the risk involved, or does not believe the pay is good enough. He is able to be convinced to help after Dev Ayesa lays it out. He could be a millionaire or a billionaire. Utilizing prior advice from Ilya to "cover his bases", he manages to smuggle equipment to build a new Ops-Comm. By disguising it as food products, even placing the real products in the boxes for searches. Although the most important piece of equipment is redirected to the security room of the loading dock, this is also able to be obtained by drafting Alex Poletov to crawl through the vent ducts.[8]
A month later, plot leader Ed Baldwin and Miles bring Lee into the fold. By asking him to place a relay device on the secret North Korean video feed of the base. Although Miles is still having trouble smuggling his wife. The relay is successful and allows them to know that a piece of equipment on the spacecraft Ranger was successfully switched out by Samantha. This relay is discovered by North Korean commander Cho Byung Ho. Believing it to be an American device, he is furious and complains to Danielle. She is somewhat dismissive due to the device being used to spy on their own spying. But his mention of Miles name piques her interest. She begins her own investigation, discovering the theft of the rest of the equipment. Cho who was displeased with Danielle, begins his own investigation and discovers the location of Ghost Ops in the lower levels of the base.[9]
Danielle's investigation leads to KGB and CIA assets Timur Avilov and Mike Bishop being mobilized. They quickly lure Miles into a trap, interrogating him about the theft. He claims that he only smuggles goods such as toothpaste, but they don't believe him. He is then beaten. While Cho's investigation leads to his discovery that Lee is involved, although Cho is choked unconscious by Lee.[9]
After some time of interrogation, Bishop and Avilov resort to CO2 poisoning, resulting in Miles experiencing dizziness and nausea, eventually vomitting on Avilov's shoe. Bishop told Avivolv they were running out of time and they should try something else, but Dale pleads to be let go and see his family. This prompted Bishop to leave the interrogation to report back to Danielle.[10]
Bishop eventually returned, threatning to have Amanda prosecuted for being an accessory to his import/export business, leaving their children under child protective services. Dale pleads to leave his family alone, but after some hesitation, tells Bishop the location of Ghost Ops. After the M-7 security detail investigate Ghost Ops, they were able to track down Gerardo Ortiz-Niño, though the others managed to slip away to the North Korean module. Gerardo was then placed togetehr with Miles, as he asked the former if everyone was ok but was told that the Goldilocks hijack mission was over.[10]
Unbeknowst to the two, Ghost Ops managed to continue the mission, suceeding due the unsuspecting help from Margo Madison back on Earth. As Avilov continued to beat Miles and Gerardo for more answers, Petros Khorenatsi and other Helios comes to aid and beat down Avilov. Miles is taken back to a Helios common area, but is told by Faiza they were planning on invading the North Korean module. Miles then rallies the Helios workers to show the M-7 who really ran Happy Valley. Picking up tools along the way as weapons, they confront the M-7 security detail. Miles hits Bishop with a pipe twice as a riot ensued. After Nate Lowry accidentally shoots Danielle, the riot came to a halt. As everyone checked in on the condition of Danielle, Miles looked at his bloodied hands with regret.[10]
Some time later, the abuse and torture Miles and Gerardo received was exposed to the press.[10]
