Isabel Castillo was a Cuban cosmonaut and was part of Roscosmos' Mars-94 mission. After the failure of the Soviet spacecraft due to technical problems halfway to Mars and their rescue by NASA's Sojourner crew, she became part of the US/USSR joint mission on the red planet.[1]

In May 1995, Isabel died during the aftermath of the Gagarin Ridge drilling disaster.[2]
