"Have A Nice Sol" is the second episode of the fourth season of For All Mankind. It was released on Apple TV+ on November 17, 2023.
Synopsis
New Helios employees arrive on Mars as NASA undergoes major changes.
Plot[]
The new Mars crew arrives on the red planet. Miles Dale and the new crew soak in Happy Valley and are briefed on their stay. The crew are then escorted to their quarters in the third floor below Mars' surface. Dale introduces himself to his new roommates, where he finds a photo of Tom Parker with his family on his bunk.
Danielle Poole is reunited with Ed Baldwin in the former's quarters and the two lament over Grigory Kuznetsov. As Baldwin shows Poole around the upgraded Happy Valley, she encounters Lee Jung-Gil, who is ordered to act properly by his commanding officer, Cho Byung Ho. Poole later gives a speech to pay tribute to Kuznetsov, telling the Happy Valley team she wouldn't want others to waiver, and the story of how the nations worked together in the old base.
Victor Diaz is awaken at night to find his wife Aleida repairing the television. He tells her she hasn't been herself and that it's affecting their children. Victor suggests Aleida goes back to therapy or back to work but Aleida refuses.
Miles tries to watch video recordings of his family, but the poor connection only buffers. His roommates share similar experiences, with it being weeks since anyone received any D-mail. Meanwhile, the upper levels of Happy Valley have much better experiences.
At the Carl Sagan Center for Planetary Science, Kelly Baldwin demonstrates the capabilities of Dev Ayesa's robotics company of finding microbial life on Mars. Despite this breakthrough, Eli Hobson tells Kelly they can only move forward if the Asteroid Mining Program returns and they require the success of it for funding on Kelly's ambitions.
Samantha Massey rants about the bureaucracy of Happy Valley, and how Tom Parker received no tribute, despite taking the same risk as Kuznetsov. Despite Miles telling Samantha that Tom was a hero, she told Miles he only did it for the bonus.
Danielle and Ed discuss about the dysfunction at Happy Valley, with Poole sympathizing for the workers on the bottom levels that are getting no communication. Ed explains the satellite that was busted weeks prior, with at least a year before new parts arrive. Poole suggests initiating a mission to repair the satellite. Baldwin advises against it due to the high risk. Poole reminds Baldwin about Apollo 22 where they faced similar situation as the workers and uses her position to order the mission.
Aleida visits Eli Hobson at NASA where she was welcomed back as soon as she was ready. Hobson advises her mental health should come first but Aleida insists she was ready. However, as Hobson accepted her return, Aleida's PTSD returned and she instead resigned from her position on the spot. Aleida then headed toward Julio's Tex-Mex, where she ran into Kelly Baldwin, where they introduce themselves for the first time. The two share drinks over their recent struggles.
Miles receives his first paycheck but is surprised at the deductions, resulting to less money than he did before. As Miles complained to Palmer James, he was reminded that the Asteroid Mining Program was halted, and that their income heavily relied on the bonuses. As Baldwin came by, Dale tried to appeal to him, but was told to take personal responsiblity due to their current situation.
After 7 hours repairing the satellite, Baldwin nearly calls off the mission but Poole insists they continue. Shortly after, the sat team orders for another restart attempt which finally works. Miles eventually receives the rest of his video messages from his family, and goes through them all. He tries to send a response video but is unable to pull himself to finish, due to the situation he ended up as a glorified AC repairman. Samantha Massey takes pity on him and takes him to Ilya Breshov's underground bar, where the latter fermented his own Vodka.
Following their drunken night, Kelly awakes in Aleida's home hungover. However, Aleida managed to continue diligently work, and propose that Kelly leaves NASA to work with her to find private investors to aid Kelly's ambitions on finding life on Mars.
In Moscow, Margo Madison awakes. When she turns on the television, all the channels were playing Swan LakeW, and when she tried to use the telephone, the lines were down. As she walked onto the streets, police sirens blazed down the streets. As she visited the baker, she asked what was going on but the baker with a head down told her to go home. Margo then walked to the park, as civilians protested the authorities shutting down Artem's newsstand. Bystanders demanded to know the whereabouts of Mikhail Gorbachev but the police released tear gas and began beating down on those around, including Artem. When Margo tried to come to Artem's aid, she was pulled away and plead she wasn't part of the situation.
