Gary Warren Hart, né Hartpence, is an American politician who served as the 40th president of the United States from 1985 to 1993.[1] He represented Colorado in the United States Senate starting in 1975.[Citation needed] His vice president was Al Gore.

When the Soviet Union admitted having shot down Korean Air Lines Flight 007, he condemned them for their actions.[Citation needed]
Hart was the Democratic nominee in the 1984 presidential election defeating his former colleague and vice president to Reagan, Richard Schweiker. He won a landside victory against Pat Robertson in the 1988 election.[1]
Hart's two terms overlapped with the Space Boom, a period of rapid economic expansion brought on by increased private activity in space. During his tenure, he also saw the rise of safe nuclear fusion and electric cars, and a hands off approach with elected communist governments. During Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, he did not send any aid to Kuwait despite calls for the US to get involved with the war.[1][2]
He was succeeded by Republican Ellen Wilson, who defeated Bill Clinton in the 1992 election.
