Brainstorming page (from April 2024) for design ideas for the new Star City series.

I suggest we write in different colors here. I'm gonna use orange (Oot42). TimeShade in red.
<div style="color:orange">text</div> {{Text color|text|orange}}
<div style="color:red">text</div> {{Text color|text|red}}

General thoughts

  • Try to keep it simple
    • Keep the focus on the main series
    • Find solutions for the spinoff serie wthout the need to change too much for the main series

Design ideas

  • Continue to change the general wiki theme according the current FAM seasons as before.
  • Have a slightly different theming for the Star City only articles (that does not change with seasons).
  • Examples:
    • Different page status indicator colors     edit: already done for article & category
    • Different infobox colors     edit: already done for article

Proposal

  • Use the Soviet flag colors:
    • red #cc0000
    • yellow #ffd700

Page status indicators

I've made some page status indicators in those colors to use on the series article already:
Icon-indicator-starcity-sc Icon-indicator-production-sc Icon-indicator-realworld-sc

Infobox

The Soviet flag colors would work fine for infoboxes. Also added an icon to the pi-title.
Try this in the CSSpad on the Star City article.
edit: Already implemented → Star City.

Other design options

Other design options rise the question how to address all Star City pages. If every single page has something like "(Star City)" appended to its name, it would be easy, otherwise it might become somehow messy to address every page with CSS. Unless there is a way I could not think about yet.
  • What I could think of is for example some other header font.
  • Another idea I had is to prepend an icon to the main page header.
edit: Already implemented for article & category → Star City / Category: Star City.
Code: show/hide
h1 {
  background-image:
    url('https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/for-all-mankind/images/a/a4/Icon-red-star.png');
  background-position: left center;
  background-size: 36px 36px;
  background-repeat: no-repeat;
  padding-left:44px;
}

Main page integration

We'll need to consider how to integrate the series onto the mianpage. I added the tabber a bit ago, but looks like it might have to be short lived. Thinking though, to keep the Soviet themed, the name tags should certainly be in red.

Was also thinking our lede section should be replaced with a an interactive portal such as Avatar Wiki. So far, we'd only have 2 but if there are more spinoffs, can always add more. Thinking of the first 2 clickable options being an image for each show. Next, would lead to posters of each season for people to click on. Then each one would have the season premise and poster, with a larger version of it in the background blurred. As well as a cast list, and read more links. The characters would still be in a seperate section though.

Open questions

  • How to handle articles that cover both series?
    • Tabbers might be an option to consider. There is a LUA module that can create mobile friendly tabbers.
  • How to handle categories (seperate / mix)
    • As discussed, probably best for spinoffs to be further parenthesized, while FAM gets main priority, just to save the trouble.
  • How to handle templates (for many it's probably the easiest way to make duplicates)
  • I'm sure there will be more questions incoming... ;)
