- Page status indicators (PSI) are the small icons displayed on the top right corner of pages. They should give readers a quick overview what timeframe/season the article covers, and in some cases what's the article's general content, like real world, production, help, category.
- They are not meant to be a second category or link-list! PSIs should not be overused.
- The feature was implemented into this wiki in July 2023.
How does it work?[]
- The syntax of each single PSI looks like this:
<indicator name="_NAME_">[[File:_FILENAME_|_SIZE_|_Title_|link=_LINKED_PAGE_]]</indicator>
- Each indicator on a page must have a unique name. If 2 indicators share the same name, only the second found is displayed.
- The indicator's name is what determines the order they are displayed, alphabetically from left to right. The order they are written into the page has no influence in the positioning.
- The MediaWiki software makes them appear outside the normal article on top of the page. Some local CSS is used to position them on the top right corner.
- Note: Page status indicators do not appear on the mobile version of the site. They do also not appear in the preview of the visual editor.
How to add to article?[]
Automatically[]
- Some PSIs are added automatically through templates on that page. For all character, actor, crew, and episode articles, all PSIs are created by the infobox.
- While infoboxes are perfect to include indicator-templates, some other templates are suited for this as well. For example, the template {{Catbox}} is adding automatically many PSIs to category pages.
Infoboxes[]
- All relevant other infoboxes have been updated to include the PSI system though infobox parameters. This allows to define all PSIs for that page in one single parameter. The usage is the same for each infobox and is documented in each infobox' documentation.
Templates[]
- On pages without an infobox, or if any PSI has to be added manually for some reason, there are two templates to do so:
- The main template has a fully fleshed out documentation on the subject of the PSIs used on this wiki, and how the template should be used. Make sure to read it before applying the templates.
- The indicators can be added anywhere in the article in any order, as only the indicator's name is used for positioning. However, it is best to add them either at the bottom of the page or directly after the infobox, on the same line as the infobox. Althought the indicators are displayed somewhere else, their code in the article still uses space when they are added each on their own line. Therefore, multiple indicators should always be all put on the same line.
Added through other templates[]
- The list below covers all templates that add PSI automatically, as well as the ones that can be used to add them manually.
- Note that PSIs can be added to one page from different templates. For example, on all "Category:Images episode xxx" pages, the PSI "Category" is added by {{Catbox}}, while the season & episode PSIs are added by {{EpImgCat}}.
- The following templates add PSIs to pages automatically or have the system integrated to create them from parameters:
Template(s) Used on Coverage {{Character}} infobox Character articles Adds all PSIs automatically. {{ActorCrew}} infobox Actor and crew articles Adds all PSIs automatically. {{Episode infobox}} Episode articles Adds all PSIs automatically, if the data in {{EpData}} is complete. {{Season}} infobox Season articles Automatically adds the "Production" & "Season" PSI. Years can be added through an infobox parameter. {{Catbox}} Category pages Adds the "Category" PSI to all pages, plus many other PSIs depending on type/subtype of the category. Handles everything for season related categories. {{EpImgCat}} Category pages Adds season & episode PSIs to all "Images episode xxx" category pages. {{MC top}} "Minor character" articles Adds all needed PSIs. {{Location}}

What icons can be used?[]
- Theoretically, every icon could be used as PSI. However, for consistancy and layout reason, only a few should be used. The psi-template determines the correct icon and places it in the right order, adding an appropriate link and alt text according to what page it is used on.
- The PSI system of the For All Mankind Wiki uses the following groups of icons:
| Group | Examples | Full list | No of icons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Season icons | Category: Season icons | 10 | |
| Episode icons | Category: Episode icons | 40 | |
| Year icons | (no red-icon versions yet) |
Category: Year icons | 62 |
| Specific icons | Category: Status indicator icons | 52 | |
| Flag icons | Category: Flags | 53 |
Which indicator on which page?[]
- The following PSI should be put on these artices:
| Articles | Icons | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Character articles |
|
All done through the {{Character}} infobox. |
| Actor articles |
|
All done through the {{ActorCrew}} infobox. |
| Crew articles |
|
All done through the {{ActorCrew}} infobox. |
| Season articles |
|
Done through the {{Season}} infobox. Years have to be added by an infobox parameter. |
| Episodes articles |
|
All done through the {{Episode infobox}}. Data is taken from the episode database which should always be up-to-date. |
| Event articles |
|
All common infoboxes suited for these kind of articles have now a parameter psi, where up to 9 PSIs can be added. The system is documented on each infobox' documentation. For articles without such an infobox, it has to be added manually in the article using {{psi}} or {{psi multi}}. |
| Locations |
| |
| Organizations |
| |
| Company |
| |
| Category pages |
|
For season related categories, like "Character/Actors/Crew season x", this is all managed through the {{Catbox}} template. Many other PSI are also added through Catbox depending on type and subtype, and the "Category" icon is added to all category pages. For some other categories, icons may have to be added manually. |
| Other articles |
|
If the article uses an infobox, there is a high chance it has the PSI system implemented. If not, PSIs will have to be added manually in the article using {{psi}} or {{psi multi}}. |

Naming system[]
- Each PSI must have its unique name. If indicators have the same name, only the last one found on the page is displayed.
- Note that this name has nothing to do with the icon or its meaning. It's just the name of the indicator. It is used to determine the order all indicators are displayed.
- The psi-template uses the following naming pattern for its supported PSIs:
- "g" (for group), followed by a 2-digit number, followed by a hyphen, followed by the icon-designator.
- Example:
g42-designator - The numbers after "g" will determine the order of the icon, or the icon group. Within groups, the icon-designator will decide the order.
- List of icons/icon groups and their assigned names, in display order:
