For All Mankind is a drama, alternate history, and science fiction web television series produced for Apple TV+. The series is written and created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi. It focuses on an alternate history where the Soviet Union landed on the Moon prior to the United States and a world where the Space Race never ended.[1] The series premiered on November 1, 2019.[2]
On October 15, 2019, 2 weeks before the season 1 premiere, the series was alredy renewed for a second season. The second season focused on the height of the Cold War in the 1980s as NASA sends armed marines to the Moon.
Prior to the season 2 premiere, the series was picked up for a third season. Season 3 took another time jump of almost 9 years, focusing on the next big thing - the Race to Mars.
On July 22, 2022, the series was officially renewed for a fourth season at the San Diego Comic-ConW panel.[3][4] The season premiered on November 10, 2023, with weekly releases each Friday.[5] Season 4 starts in March 2003, 7½ years after season 3 ended.
On April 17, 2024, the series was renewed for a fifth season and a new spinoff ordered, Star City, which follows the Soviet Union point of view leading to the Moon landing.[6]
Premise[]
Imagine a world where the global Space Race never ended. This "what if" take on history from Ronald D. Moore spotlights the lives of NASA astronauts - the heroes and rock stars of their time and their families.
Point of Divergence[]
The Point of Divergence (PoD) in For All Mankind happened in January 1966, when Sergei Korolev, chief engineer and "father" of the Soviet Space Program did not die during surgery like he did in reality.[7] His survival led to the Soviets landing first on the Moon in 1969 and all the following divergency.
