D-mail (also dmail, from digital mail) is a computer network service used to exchange messages between people using electronic devices.

History[]

D-mail started to become popular to the general population outside universities or governmental institution in the early 1980s.[1] During this time, d-mail was a text-only service used on computers in business and at home.[2]

In the 1990s, d-mail became also available on mobile devices like the Newton MessagePad.[3] Around that time, d-mail was also used to share recorded video-messages called "vidmail", which are sent as attachments to d-mails.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

  • D-mail is For All Mankind's version of OTL's e-mail (electronic mail).
  • D-mail appears to be the only internet service available to general public, while other network services are blocked for public by the US government and only used by governmental agencies and departments.[5]

Notes[]

  • In episode 4x03 "The Bear Hug", Dev Ayesa told his former partner Richard Hilliard that his "e-mails" had been locked. This is most likely a production error, as everywhere else the electronic mail service is still seen to be called d-mail.
