The Molly Cobb Space Center, also just Cobb Space Center (CSC), formerly Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, mostly referred to as Johnson Space Center or just JSC, initially named Manned Spacecraft Center (MSC), is NASA's center for human spaceflight.
The center is located in the Clear Lake area of Houston and consists of dozens of buildings. This is where astronauts are trained and prepared for spaceflight. It hosts several training, engineering and research facilities and laboratories, as well as administration offices, press briefing rooms, and many more space related facilities. It also houses NASA's Mission Control Center, which provides flight control function for all NASA spaceflights.
History[]
The space center was constructed from 1962 to 1963 and officially opened in September 1963.
Naming[]
- Originally, the center's name was "Manned Spacecraft Center" (MSC).
- In the early 70s, it was renamed to "Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center" (JSC) in honor of former US president Lyndon B. Johnson.[note 1]
- End of 1995, it was renamed to "Molly Cobb Space Center" (CSC), in honor of former astronaut and first American woman on the Moon, Molly Cobb, for her heroic actions and sacrifice after the terrorist attack against the center.[1]
Terrorist Attack[]
- Main article: Bombing of Johnson Space Center
Late 1995, a group of conspirators around ex-Moon marine Charles Bernitz carried out a terrorist attack against the space center, leading to the death of hundreds, including Karen Baldwin and Molly Cobb, and destroying the majority of the main office building.[1]

Notes[]
- ↑ The first time the center is called Johnson Space Center in the show is at the beginning of episode 1x06, which is end of August 1974, after a timejump from October 1971 from the episode before. In reality, it was renamed on February 19, 1973, so there is a possibility that this happened at the same time in both timelines.
