Clarke Halladay was a Scottish[1] astronaut and part of the Sojourner-1 mission to Mars.
History[]
During the Mars-94 rescue operation, Clarke was outside the spacecraft supervising the rescue of the cosmonauts who were climbing along a tether between the two ships. However, when a LH2 tank on Mars-94 ruptured, causing the Soviet spacecraft to collide with Sojourner, the tether ripped and killed Soviet cosmonaut Oleg Sidorov, and subsequently also hit Clarke's helmet.[2]
Halladay was one of two Sojourner astronauts who died during the rescue mission, the other one being Sylvie Kaplan.
