Alexei Leonov is a Soviet cosmonaut and the first man on the moon.

On 18 March 1965, he became the first human to conduct a spacewalk, exiting the capsule during the Voskhod 2 mission for 12 minutes and 9 seconds.

On June 26 1969 he landed on the moon, the first man to do so. His first words were "I take this step for my country, for my people, and for the Marxist-Leninist way of life. Knowing that today is but one small step on a journey that someday will take us all to the stars."
